What EIA data can answer

Power-market context

Official industrial electricity-price series can show how a broad U.S. customer category changed over time. They help test claims about the power environment but do not reveal one miner’s contract, location, curtailment revenue, or energy mix.

Never turn price into consumption

Electricity price and electricity use are separate measurements. Multiplying an assumed hashrate by a national average price cannot produce a verified network bill.

Energy context stays separate from estimates

The EIA view uses an official monthly industrial electricity-price series as broad U.S. context. It is not a Bitcoin-mining survey and is not combined with hashrate to invent consumption. Research should name the geography, customer class, unit, publication delay, and contract type. Miner-level claims need facility records, power agreements, curtailment data, equipment efficiency, uptime, and a clear boundary for what the estimate includes.

Build an energy claim from measurements that actually connect

Electricity price, electricity consumption, hashrate, hardware efficiency, and emissions are different measurements. Combining them requires a stated boundary and defensible data.

A power price is context, not consumption

The EIA industrial average describes a broad customer class. A mining site can have a different contract, location, load shape, curtailment deal, and mix of owned generation.

  • Name geography and customer class.
  • Keep cents per kWh separate from kWh used.
  • Record the publication delay.

Hashrate does not reveal the energy mix

Network work can help estimate a range of electricity use only after assumptions about machines and uptime. It cannot identify coal, gas, hydro, wind, solar, or curtailed energy by itself.
