A historical price needs a timestamp and venue
Bitcoin trades around the clock. “The price on a date” normally means a selected market’s daily close, not every trade made that day. Different exchanges can use different candle boundaries and briefly show different prices.
Nearest observation rule
If the chosen date has no candle in the cached series, the tool returns the nearest available observation and prints its actual date. It never silently invents a missing close.
