Node meaning
A node is a participant in Bitcoin's peer-to-peer network. Full nodes verify blocks and transactions. Lightweight clients may request selected information and rely on full nodes for more of the history. Mining systems commonly connect to a full node.
How it works in Bitcoin
Nodes discover peers, exchange inventory, request data, apply local policies, and relay accepted information. Decentralization comes partly from many operators choosing and running software independently.
A simple example
When a new block reaches a full node, it checks the header, proof of work, transactions, and consensus rules before relaying it. It does not trust the sending peer's label of valid.
Why Node matters
Network terms explain how independently operated software shares, validates and orders information. They help separate a convenient data viewer from the rules a node actually enforces.
What people often get wrong
A node is not automatically a miner, wallet, or Lightning node. One machine can run several roles, but the concepts are distinct.
