Full node meaning
A full node downloads enough data to validate Bitcoin history and checks new transactions and blocks itself. It can relay valid data to peers and serve a wallet without trusting a public block explorer for consensus decisions.
How it works in Bitcoin
The node verifies proof of work, signatures, spending rules, subsidy limits, and many other conditions. A pruned full node may discard older block files after validation while retaining the state needed to verify new blocks.
A simple example
A wallet connected to its owner's node can ask whether an incoming transaction is in a valid chain without accepting an exchange or explorer's version of events.
Why Full node matters
Network terms explain how independently operated software shares, validates and orders information. They help separate a convenient data viewer from the rules a node actually enforces.
What people often get wrong
Running a node does not mine bitcoin, store a wallet's seed by default, or make an internet connection private. These are separate functions.
