Hash rate meaning

Hash rate measures hashing attempts per second. Network hash rate is estimated from observed block production and difficulty because no central meter sees every miner. Individual devices and pools can measure their own work more directly.

Units scale from hashes per second to terahashes and exahashes per second. More network hash rate generally raises the work an attacker would need, but geographic, pool, hardware, and ownership concentration also matter.
